Saint Martin is one of the prime sailing spots in The Caribbean. From boat hire to sailing lessons to hustling your way onto a billionaire’s yacht for an afterparty – the options are endless. Keen yachties may want to arrive in Saint Martin early and catch the end of the world famous Heineken Regatta.

Yoga is very popular on the island with several schools / teachers based there, including www.sxmyoga.com. Free yoga classes will be offered everyday during the festival at the Hotel Mercure.
There are two horse riding schools on Saint-Martin where riders of varying abilities can be accommodated. Try baysideranch.com or Colombia Centre Equestre.
Thrill seekers can get involved in all kinds of aerial sports, including paragliding, a parasailing, parachuting or just a leisurely helicopter ride over the island. Get more details at: stmartinisland.org.
Loterie Farm, situated in Pic Paradis, is a stunning spot with exotic tree houses, cabanas and stacked infnity pools – it’s a great daytime hangout. If you are feeling adventurous, make sure to take good running shoes and hit the insane jungle zip line!
YOU GOTTA TRY THIS!
SOME COOL STUFF TO CHECK OUT ON THE ISLAND BETWEEN SXM FESTIVAL PARTIES
THRILL SEEKERS FLOCK TO MAHO BEACH
Famous for the insane plane landings at nearby Princess Juliana International Airport, low- flying aircraft pass over the beach to the runway at altitudes of less than 100 feet. Nearby, at Sunset Bar & Grill, servers write the plane landing schedule on a surfboard and broadcast air traffic control instead of music.
No trip to Sint-Maarten would be complete without the adrenaline rush of feeling the “jet wash” as the planes then take off on their return trip. Just don’t get too close – injuries and lost items of clothing are common!
CHECK OUT THE SUNSET AT SAMANNA
The Samanna Hotel is a luxury, 5 star resort and one of the most charming locations on the island. The view, plus a glass of chilled champagne as the sun goes will make you feel like a million dollars (or, indeed, Euros). Make sure to call ahead to book a spot.
VISIT THE TOWN OF GRAND CASE
Considered to be the culinary capital of The Caribbean, take your pick from a host of local BBQ joints to the nest French cuisine. Our favorite is Calmos Cafe on Thursday, which is always buzzing.
WITNESS THE VIEW FROM FORT LOUIS
It is simply incredible and a must for any Saint Martin newbie.
HEAD TO MAHO
Pretty much in the centre of the island, you can get some of the best sushi in the Caribbean at Bamboo. Once you’ve had your stomach full of rolls and sashimi, head to one of the many casinos nearby for a roll of the dice.
Situated in Pic Paradis, this is a great place to chill, with stacked infinity pools and cabanas in a lush, tropical setting. If you are feeling adventurous, make sure to take good running shoes and hit the jungle zip line!
TAKE A DAY TRIP TO SAINT BARTHS
We recommend Sunday if possible (and providing it doesn’t clash with any SXM Festival parties) when Nikki Beach has their weekly jam. Book a flight on the Saint Barths commuter plane, leave at 10am, return at 5pm and feel like an island-hopping G.
PRACTICE YOUR BARGAINING SKILLS
Philipsburg the capital of the Dutch side of the island is known for its diamond, watch and electronics stores. DON’T BE AFRAID TO NEGOTIATE HARD!
FEEL IRIE AT STACHEY’S HUT
On the way to Mont Vernon, where you can find some of the best local reggae bands.
LE VILLAGE D’ORIENT
It will remind you of a traditional French village and serves up an array of great food options.
FIND SOME SOLITUDE AT HAPPY BAY BEACH
It takes a bit of a hike to get there but this unspoiled beach with no amenities is worth the walk.
CHECK OUT SIMPSON BAY MARINA
Saint-Martin has some of the best sailing in The Caribbean and Simpson is the place to admire beautiful sailboats and envy-inducing mega yachts.
EXPLORE SOME GREAT BEACHES
Saint-Martin has a wealth of awesome beaches. If you want to combine your daytime chilling with some high end beach food, head to Karakter beach lounge.
GET A BEACHSIDE BARGAIN
Waikiki Beach is known for their legendary 15 Euro bucket lunch. Go feast!
TASTE SAINT MARTIN’S LOCAL DRINK
The famed Guavaberry Rhum is the local, delicious, tipple. Best place to find it is the market in Marigot.
REMEMBER TO SAY “ISLAND STYLE”
Island Style is the official SXM Festival slogan – and a state of mind. Say it to your server at the end of each meal and see if you get a free drink. Island Style!
